Billingsville-Cotswold Elementary School

Billingsville-Cotswold Elementary School is our partner elementary school in CMS.  Billingsville-Cotswold is a Title 1 school located in the Grier Heights Community.  Our Schoolmates committee works with Billingsville-Cotswold throughout the year to provide volunteers.  Check out this page for ways to get involved with Billingsville-Cotswold!

North Star Reading Partners

The North Star Reading Partners Initiative is designed to bring community and business volunteers into schools to work with individual students on a one-to-one basis so that every student acquires the skills needed for literacy. It is part of our CMS Literacy Initiative, a multidimensional and targeted initiative designed to get every third-grader reading on grade level by the end of the year. The program provides continued support for rising fourth-graders involved in the program last year. It also focuses on getting seventh-graders ready for eighth grade, providing targeted support for middle school students and supporting high school seniors at risk of not graduating on time.

Heart Math Tutoring

Charlotte’s high-poverty schools and students need the community’s help, and volunteering with Heart Math Tutoring is a fun, effective way to make a difference in only 30 minutes or 1 hour per week. With the support of an on-site coordinator, volunteers use an easy-to-follow, proven curriculum featuring hands-on activities and games. Tutors work one-on-one with a student who is below grade level in elementary math. 98% of more than 900 students tutored have met program growth goals, and 99% of surveyed volunteers would recommend Heart to others. At Billingsville-Cotswold, you can choose 30-minutes or 1 hour between 8:00-9:00AM or 2:00-3:00PM. Sign up at!

Financial Support at Billingsville

Selwyn Elementary generously donates to Billingsville-Cotswold as part of our annual Building Blocks campaign.  One of the purchases Billingsville-Cotswold made with Selwyn Building Blocks donation were chess sets. Students have enjoyed their new chess sets!

“Y’all have no idea how excited and proud our kids are to be chess players! THANK YOU again” – Ms. Hibner, Media Specialist at Billingsville
