Selwyn will again be partnering with Dewey’s Bakery in Winston-Salem to provide each of our Selwyn and Billingsville teachers and staff with a Moravian Sugar Cake. It’s a small token to show our appreciation for all they do!
We must purchase 210 cakes to ensure everyone receives one. Please help us by donating $5 (the cost of one cake) or more by the order due date, Tuesday, November 21.

Dim the lights and pop the corn! It’s time for Selwyn’s annual movie night. On Friday, November 3, join us for “Sing” in the Multipurpose Room. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the movie will start promptly at 6 pm. RSVP by October 30with the name of your oldest Selwyn student and the number of children and adults in your party.
Feel free to bring a tailgate chair or sleeping bag. This event is limited to Selwyn students and their immediate family only. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
We are looking for a few volunteers to help make this event a success.

Support our A-Team and win a class doughnut party!! All week long (October 23-27), we will be collecting spare change to support Autism Speaks. The individual classroom that collects the most money will win a doughnut party!
Important: For your child’s classroom to receive credit, coins must be sent in sealed Ziploc bags or envelopes with the classroom teacher name visible (either printed on the outside or on a piece of paper inside the bag).
Drop your marked bags and envelopes in the Autism Speaks Walk Fundraiser box (decorated by the A-Team) located in the rotunda. Then plan to join the Selwyn A-Team at zMAX Dragway as they participate in the upcoming Autism Speaks Walk on October 28. Register to walk, make a donation, or just come out to cheer them on…GO A-TEAM!!
Selwyn’s Schoolmates committee is looking for volunteers to help with an upcoming Volunteer Day Wednesday, November 1at our sister school, Billingsville Elementary. Help is needed for a variety of tasks including making copies, laminating, organizing, and more. Please join us as we work to make a difference in our community!
Red Friday is this Friday, October 20 and we want to celebrate in style!
- Grades 1, 3, 4 and A-Team: If your child has already received their RRR/ Field Trip t-shirt, have them wear it to school on Friday.
- Grade 2 and Kindergarten: Your children will receive their RRR/Field Trip t-shirts on Friday.
- Grade 5: Please have your kids wear their 5th Grade T-shirt on Friday.
During our celebration, all children will enjoy a popsicle. Please inform your teacher of any allergies.

Please join Selwyn’s Health, Safety and Wellness Committee at the Whole Foods Market on Fairview Road for the “Healthy on the Fly” workshop Friday, October 13 at 11:00 am . Grab coffee or a bite to eat before heading up to the third floor. Health Coaches Shelley Butler and Haynes Paschall will share some great tips for busy parents looking to feed their family healthy meals and snacks.
Friday Night Lights is coming up on October 13 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Join us as we tailgate Selwyn style before the Myers Park Homecoming football game! This family-friendly event will include the Myers Park band and cheerleaders, a DJ, Libretto’s pizza, raffle prizes and more. We will have discounted adult tickets available for the football game (students and staff are free).
Families with Rising Kindergartners in 2018 are invited to attend a meeting and open house on October 12, 9-11 am. Information will be presented by Selwyn Principal Shane Lis and Katie Patton, a Selwyn Kindergarten teacher. Parents with children currently thriving at Selwyn will also be on hand to share their own personal insights.

Monday October 9, will be the 4th Annual Eagle Dads Volunteer Day and we need you to make this year the most successful yet! Dads can sign up to help with morning carpool, be a lunchroom monitor, clean up flower beds and the raised beds around the school…or don the Selwyn Eagle costume!
Dads are also encouraged to help a special area teacher that day – check your child’s class calendar for open opportunities. Refreshments will be served in the parent room. Have fun while making this annual Selwyn tradition one for the record books!
