Sip ‘N Learn – Counselor Coffee

Selwyn Support Staff will host a Parent Coffee on Thursday, January 18, 2018at 10:00 am.You spoke and we listened! Based on feedback from the recent Parent Needs Assessment, we will present and discuss information about Peer Relationships. Come find out what is really behind bullying, bothersome and mean moments. Get tips to help your children navigate the ups and downs of making and maintaining friendships, and ways to help them effectively resolve conflicts.

Building Blocks

The 2017-2018 Building Blocks campaign will officially begin on January 8. Building Blocks is Selwyn’s annual capital campaign that funds critical needs for classroom equipment, technology, and instructional resources for our children. Look for materials to come home in January with additional details.

Although the campaign will officially kick off in the new year, families who would like to make a contribution in 2017 may do so by mail or online. Please make checks payable to Selwyn PTA, memo: Building Blocks. Or you can click here to make an online donation.

Remember, if you make your contribution prior to 12/31/17, it can be tax deductible for 2017!

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child: Become a Literacy Tutor!

Augustine Literacy Project provides free, one-on- one instruction in reading, writing and spelling to struggling readers in high poverty schools. We train and support tutors- giving tutors and students the tools for success!

In 2018, we look forward to welcoming our 11th partner school, Billingsville Elementary! If you are interested in tutoring at Billingsville or elsewhere, please click here for an application. Help us spread the word!

Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

Visit California Pizza Kitchen at South Park Mall (4400 Sharon Road) on Wednesday, December 6 between 11:00 am and 9:30 pm to enjoy a hot slice with Selwyn friends! It’s early release day, so grab the kids or take a break from shopping to have lunch or dinner while raising money for Selwyn!

A portion of money spent comes back to the Selwyn PTA fund, but only if you mention Selwyn when ordering!!

10th Annual Cookies for Kid’s Cancer Bake Sale

On Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8, the 3rd Grade students will be baking and bagging cookies for their outreach project to support the Queen City’s 10th Annual Cookies for Kid’s Cancer Bake Sale.

The event will be held on Saturday, December 9 in front of Blackhawk Hardware in Park Road Shopping Center from 10 am – 5 pm. All Selwyn families are encouraged to come out and support the bake sale!

Selwyn’s Holiday Book Fair will be in the Media Center, December 4 – 8. Classes will visit during the school day; parents will be notified when their child’s class will visit.

Families are encouraged to visit the Book Fair on the evenings of the Winter Programs (12/5 and 12/7). Book sale profits will assist the Selwyn Student Council and Textbooks for Schools, served by The Lunch Project.

Please help us make this a success! Volunteers are needed to set up, run cash registers, assist shoppers during class visits, and help with clean up.

Here Comes The Bus!

As the days are getting colder, wouldn’t it be nice to know when the bus is coming in order to minimize the wait at the bus stop? Now you can!

Track your child’s bus with Here Comes the Bus, the new app used by CMS to let you locate your bus on the route and estimate arrival time.

Download instructions will help you install the app on your phone.

Sweets for Teachers and Staff

Selwyn will again be partnering with Dewey’s Bakery in Winston-Salem to provide each of our Selwyn and Billingsville teachers and staff with a Moravian Sugar Cake. It’s a small token to show our appreciation for all they do!

We must purchase 210 cakes to ensure everyone receives one. Please help us by donating $5 (the cost of one cake) or more by the order due date, Tuesday, November 21.

FREE Family Movie Night!

Dim the lights and pop the corn! It’s time for Selwyn’s annual movie night. On Friday, November 3, join us for “Sing” in the Multipurpose Room. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the movie will start promptly at 6 pm. RSVP by October 30with the name of your oldest Selwyn student and the number of children and adults in your party.

Feel free to bring a tailgate chair or sleeping bag. This event is limited to Selwyn students and their immediate family only. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

We are looking for a few volunteers to help make this event a success.
