Count Me In! Invest in Selwyn

Our annual Building Blocks fundraiser kicks off February 1, and this year we are hoping to raise enough money for a Makerspace Lab!

Building Blocks helps fund capital improvements (larger purchases) such as technology, playground equipment, water fillers, and classroom libraries. Gifts are confidential, and no contribution is too small. They are also tax deductible.

Look for the donation form in your child’s folder this week. Or, you can donate now!

Have you ever wondered what Building Blocks funds or have questions about the campaign? Wonder what a Makerspace Lab is? Join us for informal parent meetings to learn more about how your gift can make an impact. Drinks and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Selwyn will be hosting our first annual Grandparents/Special Friend Day on Friday, February 15 from 8:30-10:30 am. Doors open at 8:30 and the program begins at 9:00. This shared celebration will allow grandparents/special friends to not only learn about Selwyn with a fun student presentation in the gym but to also visit your student’s classroom!

Please note that given room constraints, this event is intended only for grandparents and special friends and not for parents and siblings. Thanks for your understanding!

To help with planning of the event, please RSVP here with the name and teacher of your student(s) along with the number of attendees joining them.

Please allow extra time to check in and a photo ID is required.

New Tardy/Absence Incentive for Students

In an effort to cut down on student tardies and absences, we would like to start a new incentive for students. If a student has no tardies or absences in a month, there will be some type of Selwyn spirit day on the last day of each month. All this will require from you, is that on the day before the last school day of the month, you let your students know if they are permitted to participate in the spirit day. You will find this information on PowerSchool.

The first Selwyn Spirit day will be on January 31and will be Crazy Hat Day. We will be sharing this information on WSEL next week and it will also be in the Eagle Email for the whole month of January. Dr. Harris will also send a Connect Ed the night prior to our first Spirit Day. We will need your help in making sure you accurately document tardies and enforce who can and cannot participate in the spirit day.

Save the Date For Selwyn’s 1st Annual Grandparents / Special Friends Day

The Selwyn Family Fun Committee and Selwyn Staff are planning Selwyn’s first Grandparents / Special Friends Day for Friday, February 15, 9:00-10:30 am. Tell your grandparents / special friends to save the date. Look for more information in January 15th Eagle Email.

Selwyn Giving Tree

We’re excited to continue the tradition of the Selwyn Giving Tree and spreading kindness to children in need.

If you’d like to donate a toy, item of clothing, or gift card, please sign out an ornament from the tree in the front office by recording the code in the log book next to the tree. Please wrap the gift in a gift bag or re-sealable gift box, securely attach the ornament to the gift, and return the gift to the main office, Mrs. Baer, or Ms. Manning by Thursday, December 13. Thanks so much for your support!

Bring on the Books!

The Inreach/Outreach Committee is leading an all-school Book Drive November 26 through December 7. We need books for our in-school tutoring efforts. We will accept gently used books for all grade levels (K-5). You may send them with your child or drop them off in the Book Drive bin in the rotunda.
