Touchdown! A big thank you to all our Selwyn families, volunteers, teachers, staff and vendors who made this year’s event another great success. We loved seeing the large crowd at the event and hope you enjoyed it. A special thank you to those who purchased raffle tickets, made bids on the blind auction items, ordered pizza and purchased football tickets to cheer on the Mustangs. Much of the raised money goes to pay for the event itself. All profit goes right back to the PTA to support our children and wonderful Selwyn teachers and staff!

Join Selwyn families in the bus parking lot as we picnic Selwyn style!
Enjoy a DJ, the MPHS band and cheerleaders, hair and face painting, and a football toss. Stay for the MPHS Homecoming football game following the event.
Pack your own family picnic or pre-purchase Libretto’s Pizza below. Dessert available by Sunset Slush and Bucks Ice Cream. Pizza may be pre-ordered below or you may return the form found in your child’s take home folder to your teacher along with a check.

Wristbands for game admission are $5 for adults and non-Selwyn students and FREE for Selwyn students and staff and can be pre-purchased below. MPHS Football tickets can also be purchased at the event by cash/check.

Please reach out to friends and neighbors with children who will enter kindergarten next year and invite them to Selwyn’s Prospective Parents Open House on Thursday, October 25 at 9:30 am. Prospective parents can hear from our principal, one of our Kindergarten teachers and other Selwyn representatives and take a school tour led by an existing Selwyn parent. Those attending should bring a photo ID and arrive 15-20 minutes early for check-in.

Join students, families, and school leaders around the country on October 10 to celebrate the benefits of walking to school during International Walk to School Day.
International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October.
Please join us for Friday Night Lights on October 19, 5-7 pm in the bus lot to tailgate Selwyn style before the Myers Park football game! This family-friendly event will include the Myers Park cheerleaders and band, a DJ, Libretto’s pizza, Bucks Ice Cream, Sunset Slush, raffle prizes and more.
Your child will bring home a pizza order form and information on how to bid in the blind auction and purchase raffle tickets. Additional copies of the forms are available on the PTA website. Pizza and adult football tickets can also be purchased online. All raffle ticket purchases and pizza orders are due Monday, October 15!

Red Ribbon Reading is in full swing! Don’t forget, pledge forms and pledge money are due this Friday, September 28!
Red Friday is happening on October 12. Our top readers and students in the 100 hour club will be recognized and awarded for all their hard work this summer. For your student to receive their raffle tickets, you’ll need to return their logs and collect pledges. Another fun bonus…the grade with the most participation will be awarded with a pizza party!
As always, thanks for supporting Red Ribbon Reading! It’s because of our awesome parent involvement that our kids are able to take amazing field trips and our teachers have all the supplies they need to provide kids a wonderful learning environment.
Checks are welcome (made out to Selwyn PTA with your student’s name and RRR in the memo line) or Paypal is another easy option for payment.

Red Ribbon Reading materials are being sent home to each family in your oldest student’s backpack. All materials should be received on Tuesday, September 11, so check your child’s backpack for the information. It’s time to help your children collect their pledges. Please return the collection envelope (with all sponsor checks enclosed) along with your child’s reading chart to your child’s teacher no later than Friday, September 28. If you have more than one child participating, please return all reading charts with your collection envelope to your oldest child’s teacher.
A reminder that you or your family/friends may also make donations online. In addition, if your employer participates in the matching gift program, please read the corporate matching information sheet that came home with your child’s RRR materials and remember to enclose your company’s matching gift form.
**Please remember even if you make your donation online, we still need the signed and completed collection envelope and reading chart!
As the students are remembering an old routine or learning a new one, volunteers are needed to help guide them along. If you are available, please sign up to help with carpool and lunch room assistance for the next two weeks. (Please no Kindergarten parents for lunch room assistance the first couple of weeks.)
Sign up to help proctor the 2nd grade CogAT testing on September 5, 6, and 7 from 7:45 – 10:00 am. (cannot be a 2nd grade parent) and to proctor the 3rd grade Beginning of Grade (BOG) test on September 13 from 7:45 – 11:00am.
To ensure the safety of students and staff, all volunteers and visitors must bring a photo ID and sign in via Lobby Guard, which is located in the front office. This is a mandate when visiting or volunteering at all CMS schools.
It’s time to complete your PTA Back to School form!
Among other things, on this form, you will indicate t-shirt size for grade level shirts, provide directory information, join the PTA, express interest to serve as a room parent, as well as pay for Children’s Theatre tickets.
You’ll find all remaining First Day Folder forms in one convenient location. CMS forms will also be sent home in hard copy in First Day Folders.
