Selwyn Elementary Kindergarten Beginner’s Day will be held virtually on May 7, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. Rising Kindergarteners and their parents are invited to learn more about our Kindergarten program and how to prepare for the first day of school by joining us for Beginner’s Day. Selwyn Elementary Prospective Parent Open House Q&A Session will be held virtually this year on February 5, 2021, at 9:30 am. Meet our principal, Dr. Sharone Harris, Assistant Principal, Ms. Elizabeth Carrubba, and some of our amazing staff. All rising Kindergarten families and anyone interested in learning more about our school are welcome to attend the live Q&A on February 5, 2021. The CMS Board of Education voted to extend Plan C – remote learning for all students through February 12. Group A Rotation students will return to class on February 15 and Group B Rotation students will return to class on February 18.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted in an meeting Oct. 1, 2020, to increase the in-person instructional time for K-5 students when they return to classrooms on Nov. 2, 2020.
The Board approved modifications to the CMS Transition Plan for In-person and Remote Instruction (Plan B) so that K-5 students will be divided into two groups, instead of the previously approved three groups. Students that were previously classified as Group C will be divided between Group A and Group B.
The first group of K-5 students (Group A) will come to school on Monday and Tuesday of each week. The second group of K-5 students (Group B) will come on Thursday and Friday of each week. Wednesdays are designated as remote-instruction days for all K-5 students. The initial transition plan called for dividing K-5 students into three groups, with each group attending school in person for one week, then having remote instruction for two weeks.
The modified transition plan follows state guidelines for social distancing in schools. All students will be required to wear masks at school, as will school staff.

All of our back to school forms are available online here. You can complete a t-shirt size for your student’s RRR t-shirt, provide the directory information, join the PTA, and express interest to serve as a room parent.
The due date is September 4th.
A virtual “Meet Your Teacher” will take place on Thursday, August 13 via Zoom. Classroom teachers will contact all families no later than Monday, August 10 and will provide their Zoom information for “Meet Your Teacher.”

This year all students will start school remotely on August 17th. To prepare for remote learning, we will receive back chromebooks from our rising 1st and 2nd grade students who signed a chromebook out in the spring. We will also set up a time to deploy technology devices and textbooks for all rising K-5 students. If you purchased school supplies or a 2019-20 yearbook we will have those available as well. If there is a scheduling conflict, please send an email to your child’s classroom teacher to set up a date and time for pick-up.
Chromebook Drop-Off– Students in rising 1st and 2nd grades who signed out a chromebook in the spring will need to drop off their chromebook at Selwyn on Monday, August 10 or Tuesday, August 11 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The drop off for rising 1st and 2nd will be at the front of the school, please enter and exit on the Colony Road entrance of the school.
Deployment of Technology, Student Materials, School Supplies and Yearbooks – All parents of our rising Kindergarten through 5th grade students will need to stop by the school to pick up their child’s supplies on Thursday, August 13 or Friday, August 14 between the hours of 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. The pick up will be a drive by in the bus parking lot, please enter and exit the bus parking lot at Barclay Downs Dr. and Runnymede Rd.
