On Wednesday, December 5 (Early Release Day), get into the holiday spirit with an afternoon of Ice Skating at Winter Wonderland at Southpark Symphony Park from 12:00 until 7:00 pm . Mention Selwyn Elementary and our PTA will receive $5 from every ice skate rental that afternoon.

Calling All Eagle Dads

Winter Book Fair

Selwyn’s Winter Book Fair will take place in the Media Center from December 3 through December 7. First through fifth grade classes will visit the book fair during the school day; you will be notified when your child’s class will visit. Kindergartners and second graders are encouraged to visit the book fair with their families on the evening of their winter program.

Profits from the sale will be split between projects of the Selwyn SOS Service Club and textbooks for the schools served by The Lunch Project.

Sweet Treats for Sweet Teachers

Selwyn will again be partnering with Dewey’s Bakery in Winston-Salem to provide each of our Selwyn teachersand staff with a Moravian Sugar Cake. It’s a small token to show our appreciation for all they do! We must purchase 125 cakes to ensure everyone receives one. Please help us by donating $5 (the cost of one cake) or more by the order due date, Monday, November 19 .

There are two easy ways to donate:
1. Check – Payable to Selwyn PTA -”Sugar Cakes” in memo line

First Grade Food Drive

Selwyn will be collecting food items to donate to the Loaves & Fishes food pantry November 13 – 16. While first graders are leading this effort, all students are encouraged to participate!

First graders should take items to their classrooms, but all other students may place donations in the collection bins located in the rotunda.

Loaves and Fishes’ priority needs list:

Canned fruit
Canned meat
Canned pastas
Corn muffin mix
Powdered milk
Cereal
100% juice

Volunteer Day at Billingsville

Selwyn’s Schoolmates committee is looking for volunteers to help with an upcoming Volunteer Day Wednesday, November 14 at our sister school, Billingsville Elementary.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs – laminating, making copies, helping organize resource rooms, etc. If you are interested in helping out, please sign up here.

Friday Night Lights

Touchdown! A big thank you to all our Selwyn families, volunteers, teachers, staff and vendors who made this year’s event another great success. We loved seeing the large crowd at the event and hope you enjoyed it. A special thank you to those who purchased raffle tickets, made bids on the blind auction items, ordered pizza and purchased football tickets to cheer on the Mustangs. Much of the raised money goes to pay for the event itself. All profit goes right back to the PTA to support our children and wonderful Selwyn teachers and staff!

Enjoy a DJ, the MPHS band and cheerleaders, hair and face painting, and a football toss. Stay for the MPHS Homecoming football game following the event.

FOOD

Pack your own family picnic or pre-purchase Libretto’s Pizza below. Dessert available by Sunset Slush and Bucks Ice Cream.  Pizza may be pre-ordered below or you may return the form found in your child’s take home folder to your teacher along with a check.

RAFFLE AND BLIND AUCTION

Prospective Parents Open House

**NOTE NEW DATE**

Please reach out to friends and neighbors with children who will enter kindergarten next year and invite them to Selwyn’s Prospective Parents Open House on Thursday, October 25 at 9:30 am. Prospective parents can hear from our principal, one of our Kindergarten teachers and other Selwyn representatives and take a school tour led by an existing Selwyn parent. Those attending should bring a photo ID and arrive 15-20 minutes early for check-in.

Walk to School Day

Join students, families, and school leaders around the country on October 10 to celebrate the benefits of walking to school during International Walk to School Day.

International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October.
