Selwyn STEM Day

STEM day for 3rd, 4th and 5th will be on March 20. (The date for K-2 is still being finalized.)

Can you determine the right speed and distance to program a robotic ball to knock down bowling pins?

How about building the fastest toy car out of pasta to measure the distance it can travel?

These are just a few exciting STEM challenges the students will be participating in on STEM day! Students will collaborate in groups to complete four engaging STEM challenges to develop their problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills.

Please come join the fun by assisting students with their STEM challenges on Wed Mar 20th.
We need your help to make this possible! Please secure your spot here.

Additionally, more toilet paper and paper towel rolls are still needed for the day. Please sign up if you have some to donate. Items are needed on or before March 18.

Thank you for your support!

Let’s Shower our Staff with Appreciation!

Selwyn’s Annual Staff Appreciation Week will be March 11-15 . Please join us in celebrating our teachers and staff with festive treats and eats throughout the week. You will receive information from your room parents about volunteer opportunities for the week and a schedule of the week’s planned activities to show our appreciation for our staff.

On Friday, March 15, we will send ALL staff and bus drivers home with gift cards. Please consider donating to our wonderful staff by purchasing one of more $10 gift cards for Harris Teeter, Target, or Amazon. Please only purchase exact amount gift cards of $10. Collections will take place until March 9. Gift cards may be sent in with students in an envelope marked “STAFF APPRECIATION” or may be dropped off in the Parent Room.

Thank you for your support!

Building Blocks Update

Building Blocks needs your help!

We’re in the homestretch of the Building Blocks campaign, and we need your help to hit or exceed last year’s level of participation. As of February 18, we have 88 families donating a total of $47,000. Our goal is 60% participation.

Every dollar really does count:

  • $5 can buy a book for a classroom library
  • $50 can provide EOG prep materials for one child
  • $500 can buy a new classroom rug
  • $5,000 can help pay for a 3D printer for the new Makerspace lab.

Along with creating a Makerspace, we hope to supplement the cost of a Play 60, 40 yard turf dash on the new upper field. We need your support to give our children these opportunities that will continue to set Selwyn apart.

If you still have questions about how Building Blocks is different than other campaigns and what this year’s campaign is hoping to achieve, check out the video of Kenny Smith at the most recent Character Education Assembly.

Donate now online through PayPal, or return the paper form to school in your child’s backpack (additional forms are available in the rotunda).

Thank you to all our donors so far!

Count Me In! Invest in Selwyn

Our annual Building Blocks fundraiser kicks off February 1, and this year we are hoping to raise enough money for a Makerspace Lab!

New Tardy/Absence Incentive for Students

In an effort to cut down on student tardies and absences, we would like to start a new incentive for students. If a student has no tardies or absences in a month, there will be some type of Selwyn spirit day on the last day of each month. All this will require from you, is that on the day before the last school day of the month, you let your students know if they are permitted to participate in the spirit day. You will find this information on PowerSchool.

The first Selwyn Spirit day will be on January 31and will be Crazy Hat Day. We will be sharing this information on WSEL next week and it will also be in the Eagle Email for the whole month of January. Dr. Harris will also send a Connect Ed the night prior to our first Spirit Day. We will need your help in making sure you accurately document tardies and enforce who can and cannot participate in the spirit day.
